RESEARCH

We interviewed and observed both professional and casual mechanics to get an idea of the user scenarios.

CASUAL USERS worked on bikes and cars in their own garages, or even living rooms. These users are constantly transitioning between wrenching and household tasks. They want quick access to their soap so they don’t gunk up their homes.

PRO USERS are bike and car mechanics. These are heavy users -pumping pomace soap up to 30 times a day. Mounted to the wall or in pump bottles, their bulk soap dispensers are easy access for convenience and to limit contact with their greasy hands.

FINAL CONCEPT

The rocker top not only provided a functional benefit, but the bottle silhouette matched the current bottles closely enough to fit on the current lines, offsetting some of the closure innovation costs. The solution won two awards for packaging design & innovation: NACD and Ameristar.
